Animal Kingdom park was originally designed to feature three types of creatures: animals that can be observed in today’s times, animals from long ago, and animals that exist only in mythology. The third variety was to be showcased in an area called Beastly Kingdom. There, guests would encounter AA versions of popular cryptozoological creatures. Beastly Kingdom was never built, but you can find references to it scattered around Animal Kingdom.
June 14th 1959: The Submarine Voyage ride is officially dedicated in Tomorrowland. The attraction cost about $2.5 million to create. The Nautilus and 7 sister submarines - the Triton, Sea Wolf, Skate, Skipjack, George Washington, Patrick Henry, and Ethan Allen allow 38 Disneyland guests at a time to take their own voyage to the North Pole. For the dedication of the new Submarine Voyage attraction, the opening ceremonies feature 8 live mermaids performing a synchronized swimming ballet in lagoon.

Well, Between Six Flags Magic Mountain and local radio station ALT 98.7, Colossus will be getting a decent send-off party. The wooden roller coaster, which really isn’t that old and rather famous due to movie spots, is closing on Saturday. With tickets, you can get exclusive night rides on it’s last day of operation.
